Dubai

Dubai is one of the famous tourist hot-spots in the world. The ‘Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) which takes place every year in the month of January attracts a large number of tourists from the west. Dubai is a very clean city. The development of the city started in the 1970s by the late Shaikh Saeed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Within a short period of thirty years, it became one of the flourishing economies of the world. Today, Dubai has some of the tallest towers of the world like Burj Al-Arab and Burj Dubai which is under construction. There will also be a Metro Transport System by the end of the year 2015. The population of Dubai consists of about 5 lakhs Pakistanis, 10 lakhs Indians among which 8 lakhs constitute south Indians. Another 5 lakhs constitute people from Philippines’, British, Dutch and Americans. The unit of currency is Dirham. 1 Dirham is equivalent to approx. 11 rupees. Some of the serious problems which it faces today are the population explosion, economic recession, severe traffic congestion. Dubai has many unique featured buildings which makes it a place where we can find both modern and historical attractions. Historical places found here are fine examples of modern Islamic architecture.
