The Ka’bah

The Ka’bah is one of the most famous Islamic holy places of the world situated in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. It is a small cubical structure. It is the building towards which the Muslims face five times a day in prayer. It claims to be the largest social gathering in the world and a place where worship of the Almighty takes place non-stop. Muslims believe that it was first built by Prophet Ibrahim(Abraham) who was accompanied by his son Ismail. It has been renovated many times since then. It is 15m high, and the sides are 10.5m x 12m roughly. It is covered by a black silk cloth decorated with gold-embroidered calligraphy. It can be entered through door 2.13 metres high. The interior of the ka’bah consists of marble floors, and the top of the side walls have a green cloth with gold-embroidered Quranic verses. There are also lamps inside it and this give a pleasant feel. The Black Stone, an ancient sacred stone is embedded on the eastern side of the Ka’bah, one and half meters above the ground. Muslims consider the pilgrimage to this place as extremely important and thus making Makkah, one of the highly protected places in the world.
